A Spoonful of Gratitude

A Spoonful of Gratitude: Bite-Sized Stories for the Soul is a compilation of personal essays written by Guided Autobiography students on the theme of Gratitude. It includes writing prompts and inspirational quotes.

Our first writing salon was on the theme of Gratitude was a huge success thanks to all our writers who wrote their stories on gratitude and read them at the June Writing Salon.

Participants wrote on the concept of gratitude-their relationship with gratitude- how they find gratitude- how they cultivate it.

Everyone was invited to submit an 800-1,000 word narrative. Here are some questions that were used as writing prompts.

Do you experience gratitude on a daily basis?

  1. Write about something good that has recently caught your attention to make you realize how fortunate you are

  2. How do you define gratitude?

  3. In your life, is gratitude, found easily? How do you make that happen?

  4. .What do you think are the ingredients of gratitude?

  5. How do you spread gratitude in your life?

  6. Do you believe gratitude is one of the key reasons for life contentment?

  7. Who are the people that first come to mind that don’t have it as good as you do? What could you or have you done to help people in these situations.

  8. Have you had any nice surprises? Write about it.

  9. Have you done something nice for a stranger? What is something nice another person has done for you? Write about it.

  10. What family members are you most grateful for? Write about what makes them special.

  11. Who or what in your life are you happy to have let go?

  12. Write about something that caused stress in your life. For each stress factor, write what you can do or did to change it.

  13. Think about the worst period you went through in your life and write about ways life is better now than it was then.

  14. What are irritations in your life that could use a change in perspective? Can you take less seriously, find humor in? How can that change have a positive effect on your life?

  15. What about your upbringing are you most grateful for?
