Writing Salon #3

What a success our first two Writing Salons were in June and November. Your stories formed the contents for our two eBooks, A Spoonful of Gratitude, bite-sized Stories for the Soul, and A Spoonful of Wisdom, bite-sized Stories for the soul.

Now we are doing it again this year.

The next Writing Salon will be April 27th at 4-5:30pm PST, and 7-8:30pm Eastern. The theme is aging and the wisdom that comes with aging. April’s writing salon will hear your stories and explore the collective wisdom that comes with age. We are asking you to consider the following prompts to help fuel your writing:

  1. Has age changed your perception of time and its passage of it? How is time different for you now vs. a decade ago? What do you fill your day with now vs. a decade ago? How has that changed your story? Is there a story you can write that explains a moment in your life when you realized the value of the wisdom you have gained through aging and how it has influenced your life?

  2. Have you struggled with the process of aging? If so, write how you’ve come to accept the beauty of aging and what comes with it, or where you are in your journey. Reflect on the physical changes you have experienced as you have aged and how they have affected your self-image and sense of identity. Do you have sage advice you can share?

  3. Write a letter to your younger self, reflecting on the wisdom you have gained through the years and the advice you would give yourself if you could return in time.

  4. Do you have intergenerational friendships? Write about how they can provide a unique perspective on the aging process. Who keeps you young?

  5. We all experience loss and grief, especially as we age. How have these deep and painful emotions affected the aging process? How have they shaped your perspective on life? Can you see how they may have also given you resilience and wisdom?

  6. North American society has few traditions surrounding aging and growing old. Other societies revere the wisdom keepers in their communities and pay homage to their knowledge and guidance. Have you created your own traditions as you journey through this passage of your life? Describe a cultural tradition or practice that celebrates aging and why it reflects its importance to you. Would you like to create your own traditions for this time of your life?

  7. Discuss the challenges and rewards of pursuing new interests and learning new skills later in life. Did you give up something to allow a new interest to take its place? Write about a new interest or hobby you discovered in your wisdom years and how it has brought joy and meaning to your life.

  8. Discuss the power of forgiveness in helping to navigate difficult personal transitions and how it can help to free us from resentment and anger. Do you have someone you need to forgive in your life? Do you need to receive an apology for something done to you? This writing exercise could explore this emotion through a forgiveness or apology letter.

  9. What is your relationship with death? How have your younger experiences influenced your current perception? Explore the concepts of death and mortality and see if they have been a catalyst for your personal growth and transformation.

  10. Write a story that shows the role of spirituality in your life as you age and if there is solace from your spirituality in helping to navigate life's transitions. Write about how this spirituality can provide comfort and a sense of purpose.

  11. Write a personal manifesto for your Wisdom Years, outlining your values, goals, and priorities, addressing how you have handled regrets and unfinished business.

  12. What will people remember about you when you are gone? Reflect on the concept of legacy and how you want to be remembered by those who come after you.

Join us on Zoom on April 27th at our free Writing Salon. Registration is required. All your stories will create our 3rd eBook, A Spoonful of Sage, Bite-Sized Stories for the Soul. Register Now, as space is limited.
